King is a complex personality. I don't think that there is any doubt he was very intelligent, very shrewd, very skillful at manipulating men and issues, and very good at knowing how to marshal his forces for political and electoral purposes. I don't think he had a life, really, outside of politics, and it's that that made him so successful. He was able to focus entirely on the things that had to be done, or that he thought had to be done, and it's that, I think, that gives him his political skills. His character is his political character, because that really is Mackenzie King.
